Artist Bio:

(knee shy) is the chosen moniker for the collaborative art of artists: J. Shelley Harrison and Jeremy Kennedy. Work as a duo began in early 2006. Kennedy and Harrison chose to work together after examining the similarities in their own personal working techniques, activities, and especially, their shared concepts and ideas.

The goal of this collaboration has always been to actively combine brainstorms, and use whatever means, or medium, necessary to actualize them. In other words, the concept in the center of attention. With this in mind, (knee shy)’s artwork manifests itself in many forms.

Whether it be 2-dimensional, performance, sculptural, a themed party, in a gallery, or site specific; this duo always has a focus of playfulness and/or interaction. (knee shy) is especially interested in public art, art actions, and other means of connecting art and audience.

J. Shelley Harrison-

Harrison’s background includes a decade of heavy community involvement pertaining to the arts in Bloomington, IN. She has been recognized for her work as an extremely innovative artist, sound-maker, curator, promoter, and events coordinator...as well as an outstanding social presence. Harrison has packed her bags full of these qualities, and has brought them to her new home in Los Angeles.

She is a strong, yet playful artist whose art ideas pull in the audience (which she usually transforms into a component of her pieces). Though well noted for her talents as a printmaker, Harrison has always held the promise of “never allow the medium shape the project”. To her benefit, this has allowed her to work in an incredibly diverse array of materials and disciplines.
 
After escaping from Indiana University (BFA Sculpture- 2004), Harrison decided to stick with her work in the Midwest. Over the course of this time she focused even more energy towards growing the Bloomington arts scene by curating, promoting, and organizing local and university artists. Her own art endeavors have also helped to create and maintain an excitement about the arts in the community.

Harrison is a founding member of Bloomington’s collectively run art space: "Hospital”, and drummer for "the Horns of Happiness" (Secretly Canadian Records).

Jeremy Kennedy-

Since the mid-1990’s, Jeremy Kennedy has been creating and exhibiting a prolific catalog of art, art ideas, sounds, and writings. The self taught artist, now based in Los Angeles, spent over a decade living and working in Bloomington, Indiana.

As an artist, Kennedy has worked all across the board, allowing the conceptual to guide his actions. He has presented work in a myriad of mediums, but is best recognized for his work in fields of painting and sound. The one defining line that ties Kennedy’s work together is in his use of humor, word play, and manipulation of materialistic ideas.

Aside from working solo, he is involved in the ongoing collaborative projects: (knee shy) with artist J. Shelley Harrison, and jinjonjim art with artists Crab Jackson and Shane Edge. In 1999 Kennedy co-founded the micro record label FMSMPRC, which is still in operation to this day. As a sound-maker, the artist is heavily focused on experimental sounds, free/improvised jazz, and noise; which is sometimes evident in his visual work.
